Title: Oil painting The hillfort hides the secrets Oleksiy Ivanyuk Description: NoKalen 1642The Oil painting Canvas titled "The hillfort hides the secrets" is a deeply textured and vibrant work that evokes the timeless presence of history within the natural landscape. Executed with an expressive impasto technique, the painting captures the sensation of standing before an ancient hillfort, a site that bears the weight of forgotten stories and the whispers of civilizations long past. The artist skillfully blends bold strokes of color and texture to weave together nature's beauty and the enigmatic aura of the site, offering viewers both a visual feast and a meditation on memory, heritage, and the passage of time. The composition is dominated by the hill itself, rising majestically in the center of the canvas. Covered in earthy tones of green, ochre, and golden yellow, the hill is rendered with thick, tactile layers of paint that emphasize the ruggedness of its slopes and the age-old presence it carries. The texture mimics the uneven surfaces of rocks, soil, and vegetation, giving the viewer the sense of the hill's permanence and endurance through centuries. At its crest, faint outlines of ancient structures or defensive walls can be discerned, subtly indicated by lighter brushstrokes and forms that seem almost swallowed by nature. This ambiguity heightens the painting's theme: the hillfort holds its secrets close, revealing only fragments to those who look closely. The lower portion of the painting is alive with deep blues and purples, suggesting shadows, forests, or perhaps the carved trenches that once protected the settlement. These cool hues form a striking contrast with the warm, golden tones of the upper slopes, creating both visual drama and symbolic resonance-the darkness of mystery set against the brightness of revelation. It is as if the hill itself alternates between concealing and disclosing its ancient stories. Nestled at the base of the hill are small human figures, depicted with quick but intentional strokes of red, orange, and white. Their presence provides a sense of scale and immediacy. They may be modern-day visitors exploring the area, or perhaps symbolic stand-ins for the countless generations that have inhabited, defended, or revered this place. Their tiny forms emphasize the grandeur and immensity of the hillfort, as well as the humility of human life when measured against the vast continuum of history.
