RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1230895. Bbl. 24". Star gauge on muzzle. Barrel is marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 10-91". Barrel has faint "4932" and "D" markings. The Model 1903 barrel has been turned to change the profile of the original rear sight area, but leaving the spline visible on the top right rear. Lyman 48 rear sight fitted with small knobs and adjustable target type eyepiece. Rear sight assembly numbers match. Slide graduated to 125 points. Unmarked aperture target type front sight fitted in fixed Springfield sight base. Bright bolt with non-matching electro-penciled serial number. Bolt with swept handle is marked on top "W / L / 3". Reversed safety. Headless cocking piece modified to single stage pull. Walnut stock with grasping grooves appears to be from a Springfield M1 22 caliber training rifle. Deep checkered buttplate without trap. Milled rear swivel. Swivel recess has large repaired chip. Barrel band with sling swivel is NRA sporter type. Milled trigger guard. CONDITION: stock has as arsenal rework finish with slight loss of wood in inletted areas and softening of edges. Metalwork has a professional type lightly worn reblue. Finish on barrel and chamber area has notable thin and cold blue chamber areas. Bore is shiny, but lands are worn from extensive careful use. (25-2833/RW). MODERN. $300-450.
