Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (Issued by the Gallery) Mediator is a contemporary artwork that commands attention with its abstract yet unmistakably precise composition. Central to the piece are three geometric solids—a red cube at the top, a grey rectangular plane in the middle, and a green cube at the bottom—each serving as an anchor for the dynamic interplay of forms and colours. Emerging from the opening at the base of the red cube, a vibrant stream of multicoloured liquid cascades downwards, passing through the grey plane before pooling into the green cube below. The liquid is a swirling blend of yellows, greens, reds, and whites, creating a visually stimulating texture that contrasts dramatically with the solid tones of the geometric forms. This conveyance of fluid through layers suggests movement and transformation, invoking themes of flow, change, and interaction between structured and organic elements. Flanking the central flow are two black spheres, perfectly polished and providing a stark counterbalance to the riotous colours of the liquid. They seem to observe the process with a serene detachment, reinforcing the deliberate, almost mechanistic arrangement of the composition. The vibrant blue background offers a sense of expansive freedom, giving the entire scene an almost otherworldly context. The precise use of colour and form demonstrates a clear control over the visual narrative, compelling the viewer to consider the underlying symbolism and the relationship between stability and flux. This artwork's unique synthesis of geometric precision and fluid dynamism makes it a thought-provoking piece that captures and retains the observer's gaze. About Artist Chinedu Chidebe (1998) is a visual artist born and raised in Anambra, Nigeria. He studied fine and applied art at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (painting major) and has acquired other formal training which has contributed to developing his skills. He works with a variety of mediums and has continually drawn inspiration from his personal experiences. His works can be seen as an allegory where he takes inspiration from the idea of a virtual reality headset and uses it as a metaphor to explore the concept of living in one’s head and getting lost in that space which makes it difficult to accept what’s real; which is one of the problems we face in the modern world and is partly the reason why young people resort to drug use which is barely talked about. Artist Statement My work is an exploration of the intricate landscape of the human mind, seeking to bridge the physical and the metaphysical realms. These geometric forms and vibrant colours are not merely abstract shapes but representations of our thoughts, emotions, and memories, intertwined across time and space. I build these geometric shapes into abstract structures that connect the past, present, and future, where logic and emotions, reality and dreams coexist and interact. The repeated inclusion of eye-like shapes, which make the paintings resemble faces, serves as a metaphor for self-awareness and introspection. By exploring these themes, I aim to connect the tangible and intangible aspects of human existence, urging us to consider how our perceptions shape our reality and how our inner landscapes reflect the broader universe.
