Description:LORI SLATER (Cambria, California artist born 1954). Wonderful Cat lover's painting! Cat in a "Back Door", 27" x 16" sight size watercolor (framed size: 36" x 24") signed/dated lower left: Lori Slater 1987. The artist's name and signature is hard to see because it's in a dark area lower left. Needs magnification to see it. The artist has her own website and another cat painting a 24" x 24" oil is listed at $1400.00. Although the comparison is an oil the artist specializes in watercolors. See photograph 5 as comparison. You can see the artist's biographical information and statement on her site as well. The artist states she grew up in San Jose, California, drawing and painting at an early age. In 1975, she attended the San Francisco Academy of Art and continued art and humanity studies at Lone Mountain College and San Francisco State University, then earning a B.A. at UC Santa Barbara in 1980.
In 1979, she began selling her paintings at outdoor art shows like Mill Valley Art Festival, the Santa Barbara Sunday art show and Beverly Hills’ Affaire in the Gardens. she continued showing at many outdoor art shows as well as galleries and public spaces for 40 years.
She has lived in Cambria since 1992.
Condition: Viewed through glass appears in good condition, has brittle glass that will be removed and discarded before shipping. SHIPS WITHOUT GLASS! ABOUT MY WORK
While the still life is my most recurrent subject, it has been said that I turn everything that I paint into a still life. My work has been described as "mysterious narratives...with common objects playing unusual roles, offering tales of strange journeys". My pictorial scenes have been described as land/seascapes of voids and emptiness, the buildings and interiors as surreal. Regenerative themes such as water, gardens, plants and fruit have been my most recent preoccupation. I like to combine bold flat shapes with rounded forms as the cubists did. Color, used provocatively and sensually, is my great joy. I see my work as most often contemplative and quite often playful.

The majority of my work is transparent watercolor on paper. The unusual richness of my work is achieved through glazing, or layering the paint. Some of my work is created using oil or acrylic on canvas, wood, or paper.
