N’Golo Marka-Soninké Mask
Carved wooden face mask. The surface is overlaid with fine brass sheets fixed by small pins. Characteristic small tubular braids of the same metal extend from the temples and the top of the nose.
The Marka are a Mandé people primarily living in Mali and Burkina Faso. Their culture, language, and initiation systems show strong similarities with the Bambara (Bamana), particularly in the use of stylized ritual masks
