BEAUTIFUL MASK, Probably Ndaaka or Baali
Carved wood and pigment, with half-moon eyes and mouth and decoration of painted spots all over the face
A very similar mask was sold in 2020 by
Lyon & Turnbell, Edinburgh (African & Oceanic Art, Antiquities and Natural History)
The Baali (or Baali) people live in Ituri province, in the north of the Kumu - Komo area
A little to the northwest, live the Ndaka (or Ndaaka) to whom they are linked and strongly influenced.
