Late 20th Century Framed Watercolor Portrait "Tevye,The Fiddler on the Roof" by Arne Westerman 1982.
Description: This is an original painting in watercolor on paper depicting Tevye, the narrator of The Fiddler on the Roof. As the narrator and main character of the story, Tevye is the father of five daughters, an impoverished milkman, a leader in his Jewish community, and husband to the headstrong Golde.
The colors of brown, blue, green, black and yellow are rich and provide great visual texture to the piece. The frame is solid wood and painted gold and has a lovely dental and bead design around it. The painting was professionally matted and framed in Harrisburg, PA.
Arne Westerman (March 24,1927-April 17, 2017). He was an A.W.S. signature member who was nationally known for his richly colored watercolors of people from all walks of life. He captured fleeting moments in their interaction as they went about their daily pursuits.
Paintings by Westerman are in permanent collections of art museums and universities throughout the U.S. His awards include the Jane Peterson Award from Allied Artists of America in
1990 Exhibition, the 1989 Watercolor West Exhibition Grand Prize, three Grand Prizes from the Northwest Watercolor and Midwest Watercolor societies, as well as numerous other awards including the Salmagundi and the National Arts Club in New York in 1988.
