Creamy round opal with flashes of green and blue set in a handmade 18KT rich yellow gold setting. This is from our favorite craftsman in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This lovely opal cabochon is bezel set in a simple sizable 7 ring. No changes by seller. The name Opal originated from the Sanskrit "˜Upala' which means "˜precious stone.' More recently, Opal gets its name from the Latin "˜opalus,' Opal was very valuable and only worn by the very rich and royalty. In India they were associated with the "˜Goddess of Rainbows.'
Although not a very durable gemstone, it was considered a protective and lucky talisman. One of its most valuable assets was to be able to tell friend from foe by changing color.
