
Description
Rare pair (sorry for the alliteration) of vintage gilt brass bouillotte lamps. Each features two arms with standard candelabra bulb sockets. Adjustable french gray tole shade with "arrow" turn key. Unmarked.
Each lamp measures 13" wide x 8.5" deep x 24.5" height (to top of center pole finial).
Bouillotte lamps were originally designed as a card game accessory. "Bouillotte" being the most popular card game throughout France during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Said "lamps" were placed in the center of a a small pedestal table that sate 2-4 players. Shedding light on all player's dealt hands. The adjustable shade shielding their eyes from direct exposure to the harsh flames. Along with a shorter height that all to view (over the shade) their opponent's faces.
In very good vintage condition with no issues of note. Original 120 volt wiring with cord switches has been tested and is working. Shade surface is solid with no flaking. See photos for details.
