About the artist: Painter and graphic artist.
Zharenko Lavrentiy Semenovich (pseudonym - Zhey) was born on August 23, 1899 in the city of Elisavetgrad. From 1934 to 1938 he studied at the Odessa Art College, where his teachers were D. Krainev and A. Shovkunenko.
Lavrenty Semenovich was a participant in the Great Patriotic War and was awarded military awards.
From 1938 to 1944 and from 1945 to 1949, Lavrenty Zharenko taught at the Odessa Art College.
He worked in the field of easel painting, mainly in watercolor.
Since 1935, the artist has been participating in republican and all-Union exhibitions. He arranged his personal exhibitions in Odessa (1964), in Nikolaev (1965), and Kherson (1969). In 1973, the artist's works were exhibited at an exhibition in Marseille (France).
The artist's works are in art museums in Russia and Ukraine, in private collections around the world.
Died Zharenko L.S. April 23, 1977 in Odessa.
In 2009, an exhibition was prepared at the Kirovograd Regional Art Museum for the 110th anniversary of the birth of Lavrentiy Semenovich Zharenko, where graphic works by the artist from the museum's stock collection were presented.
