Title: Oil painting Mardarines and a candle Pereta Vyacheslav Description: No.Tep 155The oil painting on canvas titled "Mandarines and a Candle" captures a moment of warmth and stillness through a masterful interplay of light, color, and texture. In this intimate still life, three vibrant mandarins are arranged around a single lit candle, creating a composition that feels both peaceful and evocative, as if it were a quiet evening scene filled with gentle contemplation. The glowing candle is the luminous heart of the piece. Its tall flame flickers softly, radiating light that dances across the nearby surfaces. The artist skillfully renders the candle’s translucent wax, capturing subtle color shifts from warm amber to hints of lavender and ivory, shaped by the surrounding shadows and reflections. The flame itself is painted with fluid, expressive strokes, suggesting motion and vitality against the dark background. This bright focal point immediately draws the viewer’s attention and sets the tone for the entire painting. Encircling the candle are the mandarins—round, plump, and richly colored. Their deep orange tones are brought to life by the candle’s glow, with highlights reflecting off their glossy skins and small imperfections revealing their natural texture. Each mandarin is subtly different, suggesting individuality and organic imperfection. The light casts soft shadows behind them, enhancing their three-dimensional form and anchoring them to the tabletop. The backdrop of the composition is dark, almost velvety black, creating a striking contrast that makes the candlelight and fruit appear even more vivid. The darkness isn't empty; it’s dense and textured, painted with depth that hints at mystery or the quiet of night. This contrast creates a dramatic chiaroscuro effect reminiscent of classical still life paintings from the Baroque period, yet the handling of the brushwork and color gives the painting a distinctly contemporary freshness. The surface of the table beneath the objects reflects a gentle sheen, subtly echoing the light from the flame and integrating the elements into a cohesive space. The artist’s brushstrokes are visible and deliberate, adding a tactile quality to the work that invites the viewer to appreciate the painterly process. The balance of composition, with the candle slightly off-center and the fruits arranged loosely around it, avoids rigidity and emphasizes a sense of natural simplicity.

About the artist: I, Pereta Vyacheslav Nikolaevich, was born on March 30, 1977 in the city of Dubno, Rivne region. From early childhood I spent many hours drawing, which prompted my parents to enroll me in an art school.Over the years, my passion grew into an internal need, and I began to think about the career of an artist. The basics of art education were given to me by my father, then there were preparatory courses at the Academy and in 2002 I entered the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture at the Faculty of Painting.I studied with great enthusiasm, took an active part in academic exhibitions and competitions, and was awarded. From the third year of study, I was enrolled in the workshop of Professor Gurin V.I. , my teachers were Golembievskaya T. and Zorko A. I defended my bachelor's degree with the painting “Spring”, which was subsequently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art.I graduated from NAOMA in 2008 and actively engaged in creative activities. In 2011-2012. performed four historical paintings for the Ministry of Culture of Macedonia. Held a number of personal and collective exhibitions, including in Cherkasy and Simferopol art museums. In 2012 he was admitted to the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. My inner world has always warmly responded to the work of impressionist artists, and among domestic masters I am fascinated by the works of K. Korovin, F. Zakharov, N. Glushchenko. A sharp and interesting compositional solution, subtle color relationships, which are decisive in creating the “mood” of a picture, are those tasks that excite me the most. My works are in private collections in Ukraine and abroad. I live in the city of Dubno, Rivne region.
