About the artist: Honored Artist of the RSFSR. From 1927 to 1929 studied at the Technical School of Handicraft Industry with D.A. Shcherbinsky. Then he entered the printing faculty of VKhUTEIN. Pupil D. Mora. In 1930-1932 studied under S.V. Gerasimova. A participant in exhibitions since 1927. In the thirties, he was published in the Pioneer magazine, the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda. After the war, he was chairman of the board of the RSFSR Art Fund and secretary of the board of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. Known as an illustrator, genre artist, poster artist, cartoonist. For many years he was the main artist of the magazine "Crocodile". Member of many all-Union and republican art exhibitions. Personal exhibitions V.Ya. Konovalov took place in Abramtsevo (1970) and in Moscow (1977). The artist's works are in many art museums and art galleries of the former USSR, in Italy, Finland, Hungary.
