Ca. 600-1500 AD. Dominican Republic. Made of greenstone. Elaborate scepter with twin Anthropic forms transforming into birds. Each figure is relief carved, bending over, each grasping their feet. One bird man is slightly larger than the other. This reflects the Taino religious concept of duality, similar but different. There are portals at the hip and knee joints. The beaks each transfigure into a second bird's head. The central panel consists of four embossed, broad owl face icons. 11 3/4" 5 lbs.
