Taino Pipe

Description

Ca. 600-1500 AD. Dominican Republic. Made of magnetite. The bowl is relief carved with a human-like head. The stem is incised with an engraved band of alternating triangles and an engraved female dominates the central part of the stem. Likely used for the consumption of wild tobacco, a popular Taino hallucinogen. 4" long.

Provenance: private collection.
Condition consistent with age and use.
