RARE VIKING LUNAR AMULET NECKLACE 950-1050 AD

Description

Silvered bronze, just over 1 7/8” width (1.89”) of crescent form with raised edges and star burst tips with circular recess centers. The reverse flat. This form is well known and represented on the internet. It clearly had astrological or celestial significance; however, no explanations have been postulated. As mariners and farmers, Vikings were very attuned to the cosmos and celestial events which were inseparably mixed. These amulets then had supernatural significance. The surface textured from age and burial. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored, on an 18” sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certification of authenticity.
