VIKING LUNAR PENDANT NECKLACE C.900-1000 AD JEWELRY.

Description

Gilt bronze. As expert navigators, the constellations signified mystery and power to Vikings. Lunar pendants were worn as pectorals as well as suspended from belts, other clothing and horse harnesses. This example is just over 1" in height, with a central column superimposed on the crescent moon, with expanded terminals representing Sol the sun and Mani the moon. The crescent encloses an elongated cone, and all members are finely crenulated in minute detail. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored and mounted on an 18” gilt neck chain for contemporary wear. Jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
