Over 4 1/4” length, finely forged iron with straight cutting edges. Relatively thin construction intended for raiding where the opponents would be unprotected by padded jerkins. Flared foot and thin tapered tang. Vikings menaced coastal Mediterranean villages and the Baltic hinterland taking slaves for their own use and sale in North Africa.
