Description

Large size 10 3/4. 8th-9th Century AD. Gilt bronze with oval bezel impressed with seven pips in a matrix. That motif is a later incarnation of the five wounds of Christ, found on earlier rings. At this time, the significance was retained but the number was sacrificed for decorative considerations. The heavy gold overlay is restored for modern wear. See the reference image which shows the process. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
