Title: Oil painting Evening over the city Oleksiy Ivanyuk Description: No.AAA5572The Oil painting Canvas titled “Evening over the city” is a radiant celebration of color, texture, and atmosphere, capturing the fleeting yet powerful moment when the day gives way to night. In this work, the artist employs thick, expressive strokes of impasto, creating a surface alive with vibrancy and dynamism. The painting does not simply depict a scene—it conveys the emotional resonance of twilight, when the setting sun floods the world with hues both fiery and tender, leaving behind a sense of mystery, warmth, and reflection. The sky dominates the composition, painted in brilliant shades of golden yellow, orange, and crimson, dissolving into cooler notes of turquoise and soft blue. It glows with an incandescent energy, as though the heavens themselves are ablaze, embodying the drama of the setting sun. The artist’s application of oil paint in heavy, layered textures allows the sky to pulse with vitality, the thick pigments echoing the very weight of light as it transforms the horizon. This backdrop becomes not merely the setting for the village below but a symbolic reminder of the eternal cycle of time, of day becoming night, of endings that carry within them the promise of new beginnings. Below this fiery sky, the silhouette of the village unfolds, its forms painted with a palette of deep violets, earthy browns, and luminous ochres. The rooftops, rendered in textured strokes of gold and purple, shimmer against the brilliance of the sky, their angular forms softened by the impressionistic technique. These houses, though simple in form, carry with them a sense of history and permanence, their walls steeped in the quiet stories of those who dwell within. Between the buildings, dark cypress-like trees stand as sentinels, their vertical strokes of green and black piercing the glowing background like guardians of the night. In the foreground, warm reds, oranges, and deep crimsons dominate, suggesting autumn foliage, bare branches, or even the flickering glow of lanterns lit as dusk approaches. These strokes of fiery color connect the land to the sky above, blurring the boundary between heaven and earth. The bold contrasts between fiery warmth and cool shadows heighten the sense of tension and harmony, emphasizing the transitional nature of evening itself. Every brushstroke feels deliberate yet free, capturing the raw essence of a fleeting moment rather than a fixed, detailed scene.
