Domi 1666, by the Order & Directions of the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor, Aldermen, & Common Councel of the said city. John Leake, John Jennings,William Marr. William Leybourn, Thomas Streete, Richard Shortgrave & reduced into one intire plat by John Leake, for the use of the Commisioners, for the Regulation of Streets, Lanes &ct'. George Vertue's Re-engraving of Hollar's 1667 Fire map, based on the survey work of John Leake. A large and detailed map of post-Great Fire London, published in London. The title appears on a banderole at the top, partially intersected. Seven inset views depict key landmarks including the Royal Exchange, Guild Hall, Cheapside, St. Paul’s, Temple Gate, and Baynard’s Castle. A side map shows London, Westminster, and Southwark, marking the burnt area. Below this, a banner contains a legend indicating the extent of the fire, the line of the streets before the fire, and the subsequent post fire alteration. These include street enlargements (Newgate, Gracechurch Street), new streets (King Street, Queen Street), a Thames embankment, and the canalisation of the Fleet River. Surveys by Hollar and others informed rebuilding efforts, with key fire-prevention measures mandating brick and stone construction and wider streets. Two conjoined sheets in excellent condition by Leake, John. Published 1723. Large copperplate city plan, on two sheets conjoined. Size 54 x 129 cm | 21.5 x 51.0 inches.
