Issued just after New York’s Dual Contracts era and before unification, it captures the extraordinary moment when all four Manhattan elevateds still operated (2nd, 3rd, 6th and 9th Avenue lines), and the Bronx system was rapidly extending via the Jerome Avenue, White Plains Road, and Pelham routes. The scale (2,500 feet per inch) affords excellent clarity, with robust station symbology distinguishing local from express stops. The original 25-cent wrappers are present—scarce survivors that confirm its role as a commercial, pocket-carried map for navigating the modern metropolis. A superb and increasingly uncommon early New York rapid transit artefact, combining strong decorative appeal with significant historical interest from the formative decades of the subway system.
