A very finely carved wooden flute or whistle in a wonderful knobbed form with incised linear designs and a very well worn with a deep patina suggesting generations of field use. Nuna or related peoples, Burkina Faso, West Africa. Provenance: Ex Thomas Wheelock collection, New York. Exhibited: SMA Museum of African Art, New Jersey, 1990s. Ex: Private New Jersey Collection. The Flute measures 14.5 inches tall. There is no display stand included.
