Description
An attractive English transferware bowl from the early 19th century, featuring an Imari palette in a rich cranberry red against a creamy white ground. The design depicts a scenic landscape with structures and figures, framed by an ornate floral border. The underside bears the impressed mark "DAVENPORT" and "N", along with what appears to be an eagle or griffin mark. This piece exemplifies the popular aesthetic of Orientalism in European ceramics of the period, particularly the Japanese Imari style reinterpreted through Staffordshire transfer printing techniques. Made of earthenware.
