Bill Snoddy autographed commemorative cover marking the 15th anniversary of Explorer I, America’s first satellite, launched January 31 1958—postmarked Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, on January 31, 1973. Accompanied by a Smithsonian printed data sheet on Explorer‑I and the Jupiter‑C launch vehicle. Snoddy’s signature appears below the cachet in bold ink along the lower right.

William C. “Bill” Snoddy (b. 1937) was a long-time engineer at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, initially joining from Redstone Arsenal. As part of the Explorer‑I team, he supported early U.S. space launch operations under the direction of Dr. Wernher von Braun. Later he served as Manager of the Upper Stage Engine in the Exploration Launch Projects Office at Marshall, overseeing hardware integral to Saturn rocket programs. Snoddy continued as a respected propulsion systems engineer, recognized internally as NASA Marshall Center Engineer of the Year  .
