Nigel R. Wood and Richard Farrimond were selected by the British Ministry of Defence to fly aboard NASA’s Space Shuttle as payload specialists for the Skynet 4 military communications satellite mission. Both were set to become the first British military astronauts in space. However, following the Challenger disaster in 1986, the mission was canceled along with all non-NASA payload specialist flights. Despite never flying, Wood and Farrimond hold historic significance as early UK participants in human spaceflight efforts. This rare dual-signed cover is a poignant artifact from a lost chapter of Anglo-American space collaboration.
