Pete Knight autographed NASA Flight Research Center cover commemorating an X-24B test flight, postmarked June 14, 1974, at Edwards Air Force Base, California. The cover features a printed cachet of the X-24B lifting body aircraft, labeled Flight No. B-12-23, with pilot name Mike Love stamped at lower left. Boldly signed in black ink by William J. “Pete” Knight.
Fine condition.
Pete Knight (1929–2004) was a U.S. Air Force test pilot, astronaut candidate, and holder of the world speed record for winged, powered aircraft, set in 1967 in the X-15A-2 at Mach 6.7. Though not the pilot on this flight, Knight’s signature on lifting body/X-15 era material is highly desirable, linking him to the peak of U.S. hypersonic research at Edwards AFB.
A superb signed piece of aerospace history from one of the most legendary names in experimental flight.
