Joe Kittinger autographed Conquest of Space commemorative cover, postmarked November 16, 1984, at White Sands Missile Range, NM, marking the 25th anniversary of the longest free fall in history—64,000 feet. The cover features a printed event cachet, “Conquest of Space,” with stylized rocket artwork and a Health Research 20¢ commemorative stamp. Boldly signed in black ink, Joe Kittinger.

Colonel Joe Kittinger (1928–2022) was a U.S. Air Force pilot and aeronautical pioneer best known for his Project Excelsior jump on August 16, 1960, when he leapt from a helium balloon at 102,800 feet. His free fall of over 64,000 feet stood as a world record for more than 50 years and laid critical groundwork for high-altitude escape systems and near-space exploration.
