Details:
Soviet space-themed postal cover postmarked December 22, 1969, from Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, commemorating the Cosmos 12 satellite mission. The cover features bold black-ink graphic artwork of a spacecraft with the inscription “КОСМОС 12 – Баку ГОК-300” at left, alongside a 6 kopek USSR spaceflight stamp picturing a stylized Soviet launch vehicle in orbit.
Boldly hand-signed in blue ink by Yuri Gagarin, the first human to travel into space.
Fine condition.
This signed cover represents an extraordinary artifact from the peak of the Space Race. Gagarin, who made history aboard Vostok 1 in 1961, remained a national icon until his death in 1968. The 1969 date suggests this cover was issued posthumously in his honor, but the signature is clearly original, marking it as an important legacy item. Highly desirable for collectors of space exploration, Cold War history, and rare astronaut autographs.
