Richard E. Byrd autographed block of six 3-cent “Byrd Antarctic Expedition II” U.S. postage stamps, signed across the stamps in red ink. Accompanied by a commemorative First Day Cover titled “Byrd’s Second Antarctic Expedition – Little America Stamp,” postmarked Washington, D.C., October 9, 1933, and addressed to Chicago, Illinois.

Richard E. Byrd (1888–1957) was a pioneering American naval officer and polar explorer best known for his expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic. He led multiple Antarctic expeditions, including the Second Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1933–1935), and was among the first to fly over the North and South Poles. Byrd’s explorations significantly advanced scientific understanding of polar regions and secured his legacy as one of the foremost explorers of the 20th century.
