Details:
Paul Tibbets autographed xerox copy of a 8.5 x 11” typed document outlining the flight route and mission details of the B-29 Bockscar during the August 9, 1945 Nagasaki atomic bombing mission. Tibbets has boldly signed and dated the document in blue ink, “12-21-88.”
Fine condition.
Paul W. Tibbets (1915–2007) served as the pilot of the Enola Gay, the B-29 bomber that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. While not aboard Bockscar for the Nagasaki mission, Tibbets was instrumental in planning and overseeing both atomic bomb operations. His signature on this mission document provides a rare and direct connection to the historic events that ended World War II.
An exceptional artifact tying together Tibbets, the atomic bomb missions, and WWII aviation history.
