Vintage Josef Kuba JKW Carlsbad/ Royal Vienna Style Tea Cup and Saucer Set
Made in Czechoslovakia
Excellent near mint condition
The design of courting couple scenes references the Fragonard Love Story inspired by the works of a French Painter, Jean Honore Fragonard (1732-1806).
The center of the plate and the center and exterior of the cup are green with ornate gold gilding including rim and handle. Excellent condition
Cup measures 2 1/8'' Tall x 3 3/4'' round
Saucer measures 5 3/4'' round
Backstamps:
The beehive mark while it looks similar to Royal Vienna Porcelain it is not their mark. The mark was copied by many other companies.
J.K W Decor Carlsbad Stamp. Joseph Kuba, a decorating company in business from 1930 to 1989. This version of the label or mark was used from 1930 to 1945.
The porcelain decoration business was established in Czechoslovakia in the city of Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) in 1930 by Josef Kuba. During the WWII country was occupied by Germans.
When the war ended, Josef Kuba opened decoration business in Bavarian Wiesau. When he died in 1972, the decoration business was overtaken by his son, Horst Kuba. It was finally closed in 1989. (The Old Stuff)
