Wotan and Brunnhilde
Wotan Takes Leave of Brünnhilde, circa 1892. Illustration by Konrad Dielitz.
This work depicts the poignant farewell between the god Wotan and his disobedient yet beloved daughter Brünnhilde, a scene drawn from Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle. Set amid a shadowed, mythic landscape, the composition captures the tension between divine authority and paternal sorrow. Wotan's imposing, armoured form contrasts with Brünnhilde's tender repose, her vulnerability heightened by the encircling flames that mark her fateful sleep. Dielitz's dramatic use of light and atmosphere imbues the moment with profound emotional gravity and operatic grandeur.
