Description
This oak and pine antique has seen three generations. A family piece, handed down from a 70 year old's grandfather dating back to 1800's. While bittersweet she is passing on her cherished heirloom to be enjoyed in a new space.
This deep bench sits comfortably cross-legged functioning also as a loveseat or small daybed. Use as-is wood bench seating, or add an upholstered cushion to meet your interior design. A great piece in any room, cozy nook or large entryway. It has the added benefit of storage. Lift lid off by finger holes to access space to store items below. At some point in time the storage box was constructed using 2x4's providing a structurally sound piece for continued functional use thru the generations. Bassick glides/levelers shown on all but one foot. Amazing these thin wood feet with metal posts survived. This company dates back to 1879. The metal does show rust/wear from age and time.
The furniture style featuring shell carvings and lion paw armrests is likely a variation of Victorian furniture. The carved fan-a form of shell carving or scallop motifs characteristic of late 19th-century furniture often seen in styles like Eastlake, which emphasized geometric forms and incised carvings. They were common decorative elements in historical furniture.
