Description
This finely enameled Chinese porcelain vase, likely dating to the Republic period (early to mid-20th century), exhibits a strong revivalist aesthetic referencing the Qianlong court style. The baluster-form vessel is decorated against a lemon-yellow enameled ground, intricately incised with foliate scrollwork in the yangcai ("foreign colors") manner, a technique celebrated for its luminous palette and delicate detailing. The figural scene depicts immortals or attendants engaged in ceremonial offering, including a gourd-wielding figure and scholar, each painted in famille rose enamels with strong outlines and shaded robes. The interior and base are both glazed in turquoise, consistent with 19th- and early 20th-century imperial-style wares. The recessed foot bears a six-character iron-red seal script mark of the Qianlong Emperor, apocryphal, as was common during the Republic period revival of Qing aesthetics.
While not of imperial origin, the vase demonstrates a high degree of technical accomplishment in both the enameling and relief-carved yellow ground, aligning with the best porcelain workshops active in Jingdezhen during the Republican era.
