Vintage Mohawk R-4 Cranberry Spongeware Stoneware Jug – Mid-Century Advertising Liquor Bottle with Original Cork

This rare vintage Mohawk R-4 liqueur advertising jug is a striking example of mid-20th-century American stoneware design. Crafted for the historic Mohawk Liqueur Corporation, out of Detroit Michigan, the jug features a distinctive cranberry red and white spongeware glaze, often described as rose, pink, or speckled spongeware. Its ribbed body, small finger-grip handle, and glossy stoneware finish give it both charm and visual character. The underside is incised with "MOHAWK – R-4 – LIQUEUR," confirming its authenticity.

Produced between the late 1930s and the 1950s, these jugs were originally used to bottle Mohawk spirits"”ranging from liqueurs to whiskey. Today, they are highly collectible for their bold coloration, quality craftsmanship, and connection to post-Prohibition liquor history.

Founded in 1933, just after the repeal of Prohibition, the Mohawk Liqueur Corporation quickly became known for its diverse line of spirits and cordials. The company operated until 1966, when it was acquired by 21 Brands Distillery, making surviving Mohawk advertising pieces increasingly desirable among collectors of vintage barware, breweriana, and Americana.
