You are viewing a 1937 Simon Gate hand blown crystal decanter by Orrefors of Sweden.

This highly-faceted cut panel design is identified as "˜Gate'. It must have been a very special design to be named after the artist, a renowned founding-father of Swedish Glass, Artist Simon Gate (1883-1945).





Markings on the bottom read "˜Orrefors GA 1882/16'
G is a designer code for Simon Gate. "˜A' identifies the type of glass-cut, polished. The numbers are a pattern number aligning with the year 1937. (Resource great-glass.co.uk)

Further research indicates the artist as a leader in Art Deco style showing prominence at the 1925 World's Fair in Paris. Today his works are in museums worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This piece was acquired at a large single owner estate of antique and vintage collectibles.
