Description
One with plant specimens in a Keystone Drawing Tablet, and the other a collection of mechanical drawing exercises by Ray Windows at the Hower Trade School, Akron. Ray Windows (1917-1989) was born in Akron to Frank and Gertrude Windows, both immigrants from England. In 1920, Frank was working as a janitor, and Ray, listed as Raymond, lived with his parents and his older brother Roy. By 1930, Frank was working as an engineer and Ray was a student. He seems to have pursued training opportunities wherever possible, and in addition to his work at Hower Trade School as a student, he was chosen to be part of an early National Youth Administration residential program designed to give job experience, where he was promoted to a full-time position within the program. , and in 1940, Ray was a sheet metal worker. Both young men were in the military during World War II, and according to his obituary, Ray received three Bronze Stars during his service in the Pacific. After the war, he returned to Akron, married, and worked at the Diamond Salt Co. until his retirement. Provenance: an Ohio collection.
