Sally Gregg, at age 14, worked this charming sampler with tree and flower motifs surrounding several alphabets. She also included a verse, which is an analogy between, making this sampler with care, and carefully striving to live a righteous life.
As I have wrought those lines with care
Strove much to make each letter fair.
So I may aim at rectitude.
All my designs be just and good.
It is inscribed: Sally Gregg born August 17 1804/ wrought this 1818.
Sally was the second oldest of 8 children born to William Gregg and Sally Anderson. She married Robert Park Dinsmoor and they had 9 children. She died at age 73 and is buried in Windham, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Silk on linen: 19 ¼" x 19 ¾" framed.
