Yochi Newman is the principal designer. She founded the business in 1994 after moving to New York City. She grew up in Israel and states she was motivated by the fast pace of New York's fashion scene while living in Greenwich Village early in her career.

The company touts jewelry handmade in New York's fashion district using semi-precious materials with gold-plated brass findings that are nickel-free. Nature is a major inspiration for Newman as she comes up with new styles for her business.

Yochi jewelry was featured in women's magazines like Good Housekeeping and Ladies' Home Journal in the early 2000s. Several fashion spreads in publications such as Elle and Harper's Bazaar have also included Yochi jewelry.
