A rare example of the Rollback Desk Chair by Ray Wilkes for Herman Miller in its original Kelly Green wool fabric by Maharam. The chair is completely functional featuring an adjustable back that rolls to allow one to use the chair in a standard position, or backwards to lean forward onto the backrest. 

The chair was introduced at Neocon 9, Chicago in June of 1977 to a crowd as Wilkes positioned himself riding the chair like a horse on the stage. 

The high cost and lack of ease in adjusting the height for commercial use limited production of the chair and it was phased out of Herman Miller's catalog by 1978 making it a rare, attractive, and highly collectible item for the contemporary collector.

Item's original tag on the bottom dust skirt is missing, but the chair has been reviewed by the Miller-Knoll Archive in Zeeland, MI and confirmed as a Herman Miller product.

Foam in rollback is full and retains shape, but shows signs of natural degradation with age upon close inspection.
