Description
Crafted by master potter Erik Omundson. This colossal vase is part of his "American Ruins" series. Embodying his vision that while relatively young - lasting art is our American legacy. This pottery tour de force pushes clay's limits. Coil built bottom, slab built top, with a high relief surface of applied elements. Glazed in a range of grays to greens to tans to rust hues. At some point a prior owner applied some sort of material which obliterates the artist's signature. However this piece has been authenticated by the artist himself. Similar works by Erik Omundson have sold for over $8,000 to $10,000.
A Montana native, Erik Omundson is a graduate of the world renowned ceramics program at Montana State University. After which he honed his craft at the Driving Creek Pottery in New Zealand. And was ultimately awarded the title of "Master Craftsman" by the highly esteemed Barry Brickell. Now based in Hawaii, Erik is a dedicated wood-fired studio artist and wood-fired kiln builder. Creating works that celebrate his deep connection to clay and the transformative power of fire.
