Description:The preparatory drawing (at left) is a design for an illustrated book of Kabuki actors, a re-edition of the 1850s of an extremely rare book by Torii Kiyonobu I (1664-1729), originally published in the year 1700. The print at right is from a later edition. - Torii Kiyomitsu II, the designer of the preparatory drawing, was fifth in the Torii line of ukiyo-e painters and printmakers and grandson of Torii Kiyomitsu I. He lived and worked in Edo and was a pupil of Torii KIYONAGA (1762-1815).
