Description:Ten pages of preparatory drawings ('hanshita-e'), - two single-page and eight double-page illustrations -, including the text, for an illustrated Japanese book about the late 16th century revenge story depicting the fight between Hideyoshi Toyotomi's successor, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Mitsunari Ishida in the year 1600. Ieyasu's victory was the beginning of the reign of the Tokugawa family which lasted for over 350 years. - Surviving preliminary drawings of illustrated Japanese books are EXTREMELY RARE, in fact much rarer than those of single sheet prints!
