Eric Stry (1901-1975) Cape Cod, Oil on board, signed lower left, measures 8 x 10 and 11 x 13 inches framed. Known for his oil paintings of landscapes, seascapes, harbor scenes and still lifes. Eric’s given first name and surname were Erich Strueh, and he was born February 19, 1901 in Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1923, arriving in Boston, MA, with his artist wife Kaethe “Kay” Irene (née Augenstein) Strueh (Hungarian American, 1899/1904-1963). Naturalization and census records show she was born December 24, 1904 (though her grave states 1899). Upon entering the United States, their last name was changed to Stry and they petitioned for naturalization in 1939.Eric studied at the National Academy in New York and with his wife, resided in New York and Cape Cod.
