GERMAN FAIENCE TIN-GLAZED EARTHENWARE STEIN, baluster-form body with applied pewter foot ring, polychrome stylized decoration showing a rearing horse against a rising sun and blue sky, framed with a thick purple and yellow line border which is repeated at the rim, hinged pewter lid with thumbrest. Marks to the underside are an incised "FA" and an unidentified hallmark on the top of the lid. Late 18th/early 19th century. 10 3/4" HOA.

From the estate of George Breckner, Jr., gifted to The Butler Museum of American Art, Youngstown, OH, deaccessioned in accordance with museum policy to benefit future acquisitions.
Condition
Undamaged, except for two small dents with trailing scratch marks on the pewter lid near the thumbrest.
