Amethyst is the February birthstone and is said to protect from intoxication and evil spells. It will calm your spirit and give you focus. Pure quartz is colorless, but the most prized variety is Amethyst, the purple variety. It's always been considered a 'royal color' and is featured in the British Crown jewels. It was also a favorite of Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. It has long been used in Christian jewelry and in the Christian seasons of Lent and Advent. All this and being absolutely beautiful, what's not to love!! Although Amazonite is named for the Amazon River in the Amazon in Brazil it is not found anywhere near there. However, supposedly it did adorn the shields of the women Amazon warriors.
