Description
Exquisite French Art Nouveau plaster/chalkware bust of a beautiful woman possibly from d C. Henneckeue base on the style of comparable busts. The piece measures 18" high and weighs 7 pounds. Unsigned.
Her backstory: I bought her about 30 years ago and took her to an upscale antique show in Del Mar, CA. She didn't sell but for some reason she was left for last to pack. Of course, I ran out of boxes and bubble wrap so I carefully placed her on the front seat of my van among some soft clothing. When I arrived home, I opened the passenger door and she fell onto the cement driveway! By some miracle, she was only beheaded. So she was 100 years old, I owned her for a week and managed to almost end her life. My neighbor was an accomplished potter and she repaired her for me. The head is firmly attached but the touch up to the plaster has deteriorated. It would not take much for someone with artistic talent to fill in the voids and match the paint or wouldn't cost much to have her professionally restored. Anther thought, just put a lovely Victorian necklace around the damage and enjoy.
So this was full disclosure, it's kind of funny! I really think she should have been in a museum before she found her way to me because I think she is that beautiful and special.
