John Hammond (1961 - )

British painter & printmaker

John Hammond is one of Britain's leading landscape painters working in the medium of acrylics. Traveling at home and abroad, he continues to explore new and established themes with equal enthusiasm, always seeking to convey the particular qualities of light and atmosphere he encounters. Working in an impressionistic style, John Hammond builds up layers of texture and hue which seem to glow from within. The paintings which result are both emotionally evocative and visually exciting. The dappled light of a French café scene, the glow of a Tuscan field, and the shimmer of reflections on Venice waters are captured with a vibrant palette and assured brushwork.

John Hammond trained at Wimbledon College of Art and at the Bath Academy of Art, graduating in 1982. He has participated in group shows including The Royal Institute of Oil Painters at The Mall Galleries, London, and The South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts, winning an award at their 2000 Summer Exhibition. He has subsequently been elected as a fellow Academician. He has held many solo shows - always very successful - and his work is held in private and corporate collections worldwide. Hammond has had published a book and a DVD titled "Capturing Light In Acrylics".
