probably Spanish, depicting the Virgin in half-length, her downcast gaze conveying sorrow, her heart pierced by a radiating array of stylised daggers, emblematic of the Seven Sorrowsm wearing a black mantle scattered with star motifs and encircled by a gilt radiating halo frame
