c. 1940s/1950s; Alabama Manufacturing Co. - Birmingham, AL Large glass barrel-style butter churn fitted with a black enamel electric motor top, red manufacturer's label, and internal paddle mechanism. Produced by the Alabama Manufacturing Company of Birmingham, Alabama-makers of the Gem Dandy line of home dairy and food preparation appliances-this electric churn represents the modernization of butter-making in American kitchens. Unlike the earlier hand-cranked Dazey models, this churn brought convenience with a plug-in motor that automated the churning process. Its heavy ribbed glass jar sits beneath a metal lid assembly that drives the paddle, combining durability with mid-century ingenuity.
The churn works but shows expected wear from age and use, including paint loss and oxidation on the motor housing, light scratches to the glass jar, and fraying along the cord. Still, it remains an striking display piece that bridges the transition from hand-powered to electric household tools.
